Designing the company's first mobile app

Contract Designer

hims — Designing the company's first mobile app

Overview

hims is a telehealth company making stigmatized male health issues a thing of the past. I was brought on to design the company’s first native mobile app, distilling key functionality from the brand’s web presence to achieve these goals:

  • Reduce member churn
  • Increase average subscription products per member
  • Increase doctor/patient engagement

The entire project had a 6 week schedule, so I had to rapidly iterate on visual design, interaction design, and branding.

Home Screen

The bulk of the early explorations centered around the personalized subscriber home page — several iterations exploring how product photography, color, and studio photography could come together to represent active subscriptions.

Ultimately we settled on a more subdued color palette with signature background color for each type of subscription (Hair, ED, Skin) and an easy way to manage active subscriptions and chat with a doctor about active subscriptions or dose changes.

Product Detail Pages

Detail pages followed e-commerce Product Detail Page standards, focusing on product refills and delivery dates, as well as the ability to pause or delay shipments within a subscription — giving members more flexibility and discouraging them from cancelling entirely.
