Sorry Canada

I was just checking out the Internet in-joke laden clip from South Park, Meet the Internet Stars that’s been going around quite a bit today, and when clicking the ‘watch this full episode’ link I ran into the above graphic. Funny, it made me giggle as it probably did with many who are familiar with the show, even though I hit a hard stop on the site.

The Web people at South Park Studios may not have found a way to solve this really ridiculous roadblock that we’re constantly faced with North of the border, but they’ve found a way to deal with it in the least offensive way possible (ironically enough, employing Terrence and Phillip in the process).

Backstage at Test the Nation

Over at blogTO: pre-show interviews with the celebrity look-a-like team for CBC’s Test the Nation.

Am I Ready…

… to appear on national television and compete with my team against almost 200 others? Not so much. On Sunday I’ll be appearing on CBC’s Test the Nation on the Bloggers team. We’ll be facing off against Celebrity Look-a-likes, Chefs, Backpackers, Cab Drivers, and Flight Crews. I’m pretty hyped to see the celebrity guests too.

Taking a cue from Rannie, I took their Mental Gym and scored a miserable 31/50 (62%).

It’s going to be a fun experience, but I’ve got to say I’m a little nervous about how I’m going to perform on the show. Back to the gym for some mental push-ups.

TV Faux-drama Infraction: Bionic Woman

In the pilot of Bionic Woman, where she discovers deals with the fact that most of her body has been replaced with robotics/nano-tech (ooh, spoiler! like that was really unexpected?), the show commits a grievous offense upon the audience.

You can’t just use a song like Sia’s Breathe Me, one which played along one of the most emotional moments in TV history a mere 20 minutes into your series where the audience feels little to no connection to your main character. Slow the hell down, and give us the chance to actually care about it.

Oh, and let’s not even get into the casting of Isaiah Washington, canned from Grey’s Anatomy after his homophobic remarks on the set, as one of the key characters in this series. Way to shoot yourselves in the foot.

Six Feet Under

I was going to just throw up a video of the ending of Six Feet Under, but even the poster frame image is a gigantic spoiler, so I’ll resort to linking to it, for those of you that have already run the gamut through this fantastic TV series.

Typically, when I go back to watch an old series, I do so continuously and get through it in a month or two at most. It’s a funny thing with Six Feet Under; I’ve never had any TV series hit me so deeply, with so much ferocity. So much so, that I started watching the series probably close to two years ago, and only finally got through the last (fifth) season today. There were periods where I gave it up for months at a time, but always came back to it.

Review: Duncan Roy’s The Picture of Dorian Gray

Picture of Dorian GrayWhen I heard that this year’s Inside Out film festival in Toronto would be screening a modern adaptation of Oscar Wilde’s The Picture of Dorian Gray, I really jumped on the chance to attend, since I’m right in the middle of reading the novel. The film has been met with a good amount of controversy and criticism (locally, even) in the cities in which it has screened already, and for good reasons. Duncan Roy, the filmmaker and director of the new Gray film, proudly proclaimed before the sold out audience of the Isabel Bader theater that from the outset of creating the film he intended to “put back the gay in Dorian Gray.”

‘Heroes’ charity artwork auction

Looking for some art to show off your inner fanboy? NBC is holding an auction to support the Epilepsy Foundation where they’ll be selling prints from one of my favourite shows, Heroes. Auctions will kick off with two pieces on March 26th, and another two going up on April 2nd. The Hiro/T-Rex and Homecoming paintings are among my favourites of the bunch. Did I mention my birthday’s coming up, and that my walls are feeling a little empty lately?
