I had no idea who Elsiane were until I heard they were opening for Robyn a couple weeks ago at the Phoenix, and aren’t I glad I did some research ahead of time.
Their tracks are pretty much on the opposite side of the spectrum from Robyn’s as far as the pacing goes, but man does this girl have a beautiful and unique voice. Where I felt many of Robyn’s tracks performed live felt kind of contrived and bland, Elsiane’s were dripping with character and soul.
It’s the same kind of thing I saw when I went to see Air last year, and Kate Havnevik totally stole the show as their opener. It’s almost like the opening acts seem to have more to prove, so they really give it their all. Just last week, Black Kids gave an awesome show opening for Cut Copy, but it’s hard to match that spectacular Aussie electro sound.

Hey, thanks for this post… she opened for Robyn show in Montreal, and she was absolutely mesmerizing. I forgot to look her up… her voice and her presence is quite something!
My pleasure. I always tend to fall for the songs that bring about a bit of emotion and she doesn’t fall short with that.
