Amazon.ca and the Broken Search Box

What you see above is the main search box on the landing page at Amazon.ca. What you don’t see is that I’ve actually typed into that box in Firefox, “this is broken” since it is impossible to see what I’ve typed because of a browser incompatibility.
Here’s the same search box, this time with Internet Explorer:

While I can see why it would make sense to someone upstairs at Amazon why they would design for the majority of the market, it’s really inexcusable at this point to have such a prominent feature of your site looking so embarrassingly bad in Firefox.
Now let’s go back to Firefox and take a look at Amazon.com, the US site:

This site sports a new, fresh-looking design and amazingly, the box works in Firefox. I’m fine with using the old design, but can’t imagine it would be that hard to fix the design of the current site so that you can actually see what you’re typing. Surely the Canadian market isn’t that minuscule.

Really? Maybe it’s a Mac/PC thing (the screenshots above were from my Mac), but I’m fairly certain that it’s the same on my work machine (running XP)

Hmm that’s odd, I use Firefox all the time to shop on Amazon.ca and I don’t have this problem. I just tried it now and I can see my words typed into the search bar.
