Aug. 11 Design Review

I just unearthed myself from thousands upon thousands of unread RSS items, with at least a thousand in the design category alone. It was an exercise in speed-reading, to say the least. Here’s some of the good stuff that goes back at least two to three weeks.

  • Anh Ta at product dose laments about the lack of non-fugly backpacks in the market. Meanwhile, Nike releases their 3-Way Commuter Bag that looks perfectly suited for my new lifestyle working downtown. My name’s Adam and I have a problem with buying bags.
  • When I first heard Chemical Brothers’ new album, I knew Salmon Dance was bound to have an off-the-wall, potentially insane video. I’ve got to say I kind of expected a little more, but it’s an awesome animation nonetheless.
  • Creepy but cool – Bored of stuffing the pet dog after he sees the light? Get your own Custom Creation Taxidermy. Mash-ups meet taxidermy! (No joke) [via NOTCOT]
  • Scottish Designer David Taylor and his minimalistic beauty Glasgow Lamp. [also via NC]
  • Josh Spear is delighted that the 9 VOLTS snap-on 9-volt battery lamps are now available
  • I love houses like this, this, and this. Sounds like the whole pre-fab thing is going to take off like crazy soon.
  • Presentation Zen gets into the good stuff from Steve Jobs’ press event last week where they announced the beautiful new aluminum iMac and new super-thin Apple keyboard. (Quick aside – note the simplicity in Apple marketing goes right down to product URLs. I didn’t even have to look them up for each of these products, it was just /iMac and /keyboard right off the TLD)
  • Torontoist has a beautiful panorama of the bridge at Harbourfront as part of their Panoramaist series, which is a few minutes away from my new office.

Whew, to say that was cathartic would be a bit of an understatement.
