Hard drive kaput

I’d say this is just how I pictured myself spending my holiday weekend, but that would be grossly incorrect. I’m now waiting for my hard drive to reach near sub-zero temperatures in my freezer, crossing my fingers that the hard drive in the freezer trick will work for me long enough to pull the data off of there and recover nearly five years worth of pictures and a meticulously organized music library. That’s the thing about backups, it’s always easier to say you do them regularly and keep active copies around.

Update: Well, of course that didn’t work, so I’m out about 5 years worth of digital photos, and my iTunes music library. I can recover the songs from my iPod, but all the playlists, ratings, organization is gone. I didn’t have room on my external drive to keep a backup, so I really have nothing left. Good times…
