When Google first unveiled the satellite view for their Maps application a while back, there was a lot of outcry about the potential privacy implications. Well, you aint seen nothing yet. They've just recently unveiled their new Street View feature in select US cities, which is similar, yet highly superior to Microsoft's Live Maps birds eye view. Frank Warren of PostSecret hits Toronto Uncategorized | (0)
I'm kicking myself for not hearing about this sooner, but Frank Warren of PostSecret fame will be doing an audio/visual presentation this evening outside of OCAD at 8pm. Besides being one of the top ten most popular blogs on the Net, and having been published as a hardcover book, PS is an absolutely brilliant concept. Readers send in anonymous and often highly creative postcards to Frank, confessing their deepest, sometimes disturbing secrets, and he posts them on the blog. Microsoft announces ‘Surface’ Uncategorized | (0)
Looks like Microsoft's jumped headfirst into the multi-touch surface computing game, and have launched Surface, a public-space oriented computing platform that will allow people to get hands-on at hotels, restaurants, and retailers. Lots of video of the 'coffee table computing' technology available at Popular Mechanics, at 10 and at the Surface site. I discussed desktop multi-touch and Jeff Han's concept demo of hte technology before.

Doors Open Toronto Uncategorized | (2)
I had the chance this weekend to check out a few of the locations open in the city as part of the Toronto Doors Open celebration. Each year, hundreds of business and buildings not typically open to the public open up their doors for free admission. As you can see by the list of open buildings, there were quite a few to choose from, but among the ones that stood out included the now closed and often illegally adventured Lower Bay subway station, the historic Distillery District, and the one that caught my eye (pictured above), 401 Richmond Street. There's some beautiful art coming out of the Star Wars Celebration IV festival in LA, which kicked off today. The Vader Project is a collection of Darth Vader helmets designed by what I assume are several artists. Passive-aggressive notes Uncategorized | (0)
Once in a while a real niche blog comes along that I just fall for immediately. Passive-agressive notes is one of those that documents these wonderful little notes that people leave for each other due rather than having face-to-face conversations. I think we've all run across one of these gems in the workplace or in some other public place at one point or another. I think I may need to print myself off a copy of the and/or note.

When I heard that this year's Inside Out film festival in Toronto would be screening a modern adaptation of Oscar Wilde's The Picture of Dorian Gray, I really jumped on the chance to attend, since I'm right in the middle of reading the novel. Hard drive kaput Uncategorized | (0)
I'd say this is just how I pictured myself spending my holiday weekend, but that would be grossly incorrect. I'm now waiting for my hard drive to reach near sub-zero temperatures in my freezer, crossing my fingers that the hard drive in the freezer trick will work for me long enough to pull the data off of there and recover nearly five years worth of pictures and a meticulously organized music library. ROM Lee-Chin Crystal opening and concert Uncategorized | (0)
It's been a long time coming, but Saturday June 2nd will see the opening of the Lee-Chin Crystal renovation at the Royal Ontario Museum. Free admission to the public will begin at 8pm that night, followed by an hour-and-change-long concert at 9:30pm in front of the Crystal featuring David Foster, Deborah Cox and Isabel Bayrakdarian, and will also bring appearances by David Suzuki and certainly other Canadian celebs.
