Batman animation short Writing | (3)
I'm a sucker for all things Batman, and am very much looking forward to the upcoming LEGO Batman game (anyone who has played LEGO Star Wars can probably relate) and The Dark Knight, the sequel to Batman Begins. Having recently been served a completely unjustifiable parking ticket in an area without a working parking meter, I found it funny how the city expects you immediately follow the first two of three options, either "Voluntary Payment" or "Set Fine Payment." Huh? So if I don't voluntarily fork over my $30 using your all too convenient parking fine payment site, I have the privilege of paying the "set" fine of, wait, $30, too? I found about this way too late to even think of going, but for those of you looking for something to do on a Wednesday night, I have it on good authority that the Toronto Symphony Orchestra's concert, The Epics concert is quite the show. The Epics has themes from some of Hollywood's classic and most well-known films, and its last show is tonight at 8pm.

I regrettably missed Toronto's Nuit Blanche event last October, so it's great to see that they've decided to go ahead and keep it going this year. Nuit Blanche is an all-night cultural and art event that started in Paris several years ago, and the idea took off in many other cities, Toronto being one of them. Local artists are given the opportunity to submit ideas and put together exhibits all over the city. The Helio Ocean is another example of how much catching up we have to do in Canada for mobile technology, even with our neighbours to the South. Helio is a "Lifestyle" MVNO operating in the US that caters to the younger, potentially MySpace-using, web-savvy crowd, and its catch line in marketing its phones is, "don't call it a cell phone." So we've established that Twitter answers the question, "What is the world doing/saying right now?" But how is everyone really feeling? We Feel Fine is a blog analysis tool that looks for the words "I feel" or "I'm feeling" in blog posts across the Internet, and aggregates them into a central location, giving you the ability to sort by date, gender, geography, or just see a random mess of thoughts (see left). PS3 Folding@home accounts for 56% of total project power Uncategorized | (0)
Update Mar. 25: Looks like the PS3's are now hovering around 75% of the total power of the Folding@home project. Very impressive! With the most recent update from Sony, PlayStation 3 owners now have the ability to run Stanford's Folding@home distributed research project, and what a difference they're making already! Statistics pulled from Stanford today show that the mere 13,000 or so PS3's out there who have begun running the Folding@home program are now accounting for around 56% of the project's total computing power. This week I came across the concept of the Tumblelog, a variation on the traditional blog where the idea is you post extremely short snippets of text, mixed media (image, video, etc.) or quotes with little to no commentary (see Projectionist for an example). Tumblr now offers free Tumblelog hosting and creation, much in the same way that Wordpress does for traditional blogs.
